Murky Reflection

I left at 5pm on the dot

But that’s how most roll

In these deadbeat office jobs

That mean nothing

I walked South through Hackney

The tall lights of the City shining down on me

Like crystal towers out of reach

Always out of reach

The November early eve was full dark already

Scattered parents outside a nursery school

Ragged man smelling of weed

A Great Dane sniffed in front of 2 men

With an office door open behind them

Always the sound of traffic

Car horns beeping in the distance

As always I walked as fast as I could

Not that I was rushing towards anything

Sitting through 4 interviews in a row

Listening to people angle for a job

It all tired me out a bit more than normal

All these days

All these people

Moving towards some great uncertainty

Moving toward nothing more than the same

Through tunnels and stairs and trains

That lead to nothing but a murky reflection

Of yourself
